Ervin's Graduation Speech at Rennweg 1, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Dear board of trustees, Mr. President, faculty members, guests, fellow students, We've come together today for a joyful ceremony which could not be possible without the devotion and sacrifices of our sponsors and teachers. At International Christian we had a unique opportunity to meet virtually the entire world, since our students come from over fifty different countries. We had received a sound education from devoted professors and we must be most thankful for it.
Good friendships have developed during the years of studies and we can tell now that we have an insight into international affairs and we know of many different cultures -- from China to the United States. Perhaps it is far more important for many of us that we had an opportunity to learn more about our Savior, Jesus Christ and could grow in the Christian faith. International Christian has always been a good example for the believers though it never forced anyone to accept God. It is indeed a privilege to be a student at International Christian. But this graduation today is only a milestone in our journey in education. Most of us -- like I -- have received an Associate degree today and will work for higher degrees. Even those who have received a Bachelor degree and will leave the university will meet new challenges and will need to go further in their academic work. They will need to continue to learn new skills. There are some quite elderly people in this room who have never stopped learning throughout their long life; and there are small babies who will still need to go a long way to get to wherever the graduating students stand today. The degrees we hold now are not more than milestones of a long journey. But we, the graduating students, have a responsibility to find the road we place these milestones beside -- and it will not be an easy task. Jesus said,
If we make the right decision in selecting the road, we can say together with the poet Robert Frost,
When we select the road and set up our goals, we must give back to others the knowledge that we acquired at International Christian. If God helps us financially, we must support the university and new students the way our sponsors supported us, so that more people who can't afford costly education may get it for free. I urge everyone to keep on supporting this institute and free education. I wish you all the richest blessings of our heavenly Father. Thank you for your attention.
President Goodheer congratulates Ervin at the graduation ceremony. |
